Born Guilty
On 12 May 2026, Twisha Sharma, 33, was found hanging in her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills. The FIR named her husband and mother-in-law on allegations of dowry harassment.
Twisha Sharma’s family has sought an independent probe into alleged calls made by accused Giribala Singh to influential individuals after the incident in Bhopal.

The family of Twisha Sharma has raised questions over a series of alleged phone calls made by retired judge Giribala Singh, one of the accused in the dowry harassment case linked to Twisha’s death, to several influential individuals shortly after the incident.
Twisha’s family has now sought an independent and transparent probe into the communications, arguing that the timing and nature of the alleged calls warrant closer scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation into the 33-year-old’s death in Bhopal earlier this month.

In a press note issued on Friday, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma claimed the family became aware of the alleged communications only through court documents and media reports.

Alongside the statement, Twisha Sharma’s legal team released a list of mobile numbers and names that were allegedly contacted by Giribala Singh after the incident.
According to the family, the alleged call records include names of several individuals from influential backgrounds, including members of the judiciary, police officials, doctors, advocates and persons allegedly linked to CCTV systems.
The names mentioned in the press note include Justice Manoj Kumar (ADJ), Justice Satyendra Kumar Singh associated with Lokayukta, District Judge AK Mishra, Advocate Venosh Carlo, Dr Rajbala Bahudoria, Siabala Baghel, Pramod Jharia, Dr Yashveer, Pankaj Kushwaha, Ajey Singh and others.
The family also flagged alleged communication with Rohit Vishwakarma and Vinod Wani, who were described as being associated with CCTV maintenance.
“The family has no knowledge regarding the contents or purpose of these conversations and does not draw any conclusion from them,” the press note stated.
“However, considering the gravity of the case, the timing and frequency of such communications deserve independent examination by the SIT and competent authorities,” it added.
The family further argued that CCTV footage and digital records are critical in suspicious death investigations and said all related electronic evidence should be independently verified.
“CCTV footage and digital records are crucial pieces of evidence in any suspicious death investigation. The family therefore believes that the purpose, timing and context of every such communication must be independently verified through forensic and investigative processes,” the note stated.
The family also expressed concern that while several communications allegedly took place following the incident, Twisha’s parents were not given “the same level of prompt communication, transparency or assistance”.
Twisha’s legal team has urged the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine call detail records, CCTV logs, digital communications and maintenance records connected to the period immediately after the incident.
“The family seeks neither special treatment nor assumptions of guilt. It seeks only a fair investigation and complete transparency,” the statement added.
On Thursday, advocate Piyush Kumar Tiwari, appearing for Twisha Sharma’s family, demanded cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh on May 15.
Tiwari alleged that bail conditions were being violated and claimed attempts were being made to influence the investigation and tamper with evidence.
“We demand that the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh by the trial court on 15th May should be cancelled as soon as possible because she is violating all the conditions mentioned in the bail order,” Tiwari told ANI.
He further said the family would press for a second post-mortem examination.
Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, had married Bhopal-based Samarth Singh in December 2025. She died under suspicious circumstances on May 12 at her matrimonial home.
Police have registered a case against her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh following allegations of dowry harassment and mental torture made by Twisha’s family. A Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the case.
Meanwhile, Samarth Singh remains absconding.
